SIMON SAYS
30th January '10
Hasn’t it been fascinating following the various predictions on house prices over the last couple of years? There have been continual predictions that house prices will crash, by amounts anywhere between 10% and 35%. Actual statistics show only a minor adjustment in median house prices during 2008 and 2009. I am now reading that “House Prices are Booming” and that the median NZ house price is at its highest level. I question how these so called ‘experts’ could be so far out on their predictions? Looking at the history of house prices would give them a better indication on future prices before going to the media with such outrageous claims. It’s no surprise there is pressure on the market from buyers, as new house construction figures remain significantly below where they need to be. A point I would like to make is that the homes we now have for sale are really good buying. I know we will not replace these homes at current levels as we continue to face price pressure via a shortage of materials (mainly timber); while I also sense increased demand for homes each month. If you are a new home buyer I have a range of options available.
